Basu shared a video of the incident and sought action from Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner and IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, Bipasha Basu showed a brand-new container of Isopure protein supplement that she had recently opened. She also displayed a small live maggot that she had taken out of the powder and was holding on her finger.
Expressing her anger, Basu said, "Look at what has been found in Isopure's powder... small, small live maggots. We had just opened a completely new container of this product, and this entire container is filled with such maggots."
Known across Maharashtra for his strict approach, Tukaram Mundhe was directly tagged by Basu as she sought intervention over the incident. In her Instagram Story, she tagged Mundhe, added folded-hands emoji and wrote, "Tukaram Mundhe, now you are our last and only hope. The products that we buy from the market by working hard and paying our money should at least not be rotten, infested or adulterated, and only you can take strict action in this matter."
Isopure is primarily popular among people involved in gym workouts, dieting and athletics as a low-carb or zero-carb whey protein supplement. The younger generation relies on these expensive supplements while working towards building their bodies. However, the reported discovery of live maggots has raised serious questions over the manufacturing process and packaging standards of such products.
Following Bipasha Basu's complaint, attention is now focused on what action the Food and Drug Administration will take against the company and what explanation the company will provide regarding the incident.
